I can't believe I've never read this book before. My mom was always trying to get me to read it when I was young, and I probably had about 6 copies on my bookshelf, but I just never got around to it. I finally got a hold of it on audiobook so I could listen at work (multitasking!), and I really enjoyed the story.Jonas is a twelve-year old boy, who is about to be placed in a profession in his society. However, when things don't go as expected, he is thrown into a world of new colours, things, and events that only he and one other know about. Intrigue and mystery surrounding his job become even more pronounced as the novel goes on, as do his continuous questions about the way of life in his community. The plot was well-written and child-friendly for the most part. 4 stars
