Might need a re-read as I was pretty distracted these past couple days, but I definitely didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. The world building was pretty great and definitely wasn't lacking. I loved the difference between countries and the way each country had a defining feature/features. The lands were realistic and I was so happy that we didn't have to live through the weeks of travelling with the characters! And therein lies my issue with this book. I wasn't invested in the characters. Finnikin had a nice personality and was fighting for the greater good, but I thought he was sometimes ridiculously irrational. Evanjalin was also a frustrating character who refused to compromise. Don't get me wrong, I love a strong female character, but at times it was frustrating to me. All in all it was alright for me, but I'm willing to give it a second chance when I'm less distracted!
