Well, I must say I did enjoy this one a lot more than the first one. Not only do we get to learn much more about Sophie's background and the history of her family, we also get more from other characters like Jenna and Cal. The book begins with Sophie's father finally coming to visit her. The decision is then made that she will travel to the Headquarters of the Council in London, England for the summer. Both Jenna and Cal accompany her. The nice part about them being at Headquarters is that we get some more insight into the workings of the Council, and we are introduced to some new and fairly important characters that apparently should not exist. The intricate power plays surrounding the Council leadership, coupled with the fact the the lines have become blurred between the "good guys" and the "bad guys" made this installation in Hawkins' series much more enjoyable than her first book. Although this series is pretty mainstream, for example, the love triangle that seems to be forming, I find I'm enjoying it quite a lot. While it often takes a while for her books to build up, the endings are quite good, with some nice twists (and cliffhangers!) that keep the readers guessing. Can't wait to see how it will all fit together in the 3rd book!
