Shadowfever - Karen Marie Moning

Terrific! Astounding! Torturous! All of these words describe how I felt about this fantastic novel. It is pretty much impossible to discuss the events in this book without giving away the entire story. Mysteries are laid to rest, adventures are to be had, and twists lurk around every corner.

This is one of the reasons I enjoy reading adult paranormal novels over young adult. The plot was so intricate and well written. I honestly don’t think anyone could have guessed who (view spoiler), and who could have known what was lurking in Jericho’s basement! Furthermore, there was no insta-love here (except, of course, with death-by-sex fairies, which doesn't really count), and relationships were allowed to unfold naturally rather than forcefully. This added a layer of complexity to the entire series, making it even more enjoyable to read.

I am so happy with the way this series unfolded. As you know, after Darkfever, I was disappointed. I greatly disliked Mac as a character, and I wasn’t impressed with the writing style. But Karen Marie Moning has come so far since her first novel! I no longer feel like events are blatantly being foreshadowed; in fact, we are kept much more in the dark. Mac’s life is turned upside down, forcing her to adapt and transform into a bad ass Unseelie killer.

Everything about this book gets a 5/5. I can’t think of any way to make it better. I’m so happy I just want to jump on the back of a Hunter and fly to the moon!
